My Key Takeaways from WordCamp Sydney 2024
This past weekend at WordCamp Sydney was everything I’d hoped for and more. Being surrounded by passionate people, learning from experienced speakers, and diving into the latest in WordPress and web design gave me a renewed drive and clarity. I left with a head full of ideas, a heart full of gratitude, and some serious motivation to bring what I learned back into my work. Here’s a look at the key takeaways I’m excited to put into action.
Building Confidence in My Skills
I’m coming away from WordCamp feeling more confident in my skills. A lot of the speaker topics weren’t necessarily new, but they reinforced what I already know and gave me a real boost in my approach. So expect more tech tips across my socials and more consistent communication for my clients. I’m ready to take things up a notch!
Doubling Down on Accessibility
I’m doubling down on accessibility. It’s not an add-on or a buzzword – it’s an essential part of every project. Once you fully understand the challenges many people face in navigating the online world, you can’t unsee it. I’m still feeling that gut-wrenching guilt knowing I was oblivious to some of these issues! From here on out, I’m making it my mission to ensure every site I build meets accessibility standards with a capital AA (accessibility guidelines joke there, my non-web friends 😅😅).
Staying Ethical in My Work
If you know me or have worked with me, you know I genuinely care. WordCamp made me reflect on being ethical in every decision I make. Of course, we should all aim to do the right thing, right? But for me, it’s become even clearer that I’m not here to just do whatever’s requested. After 15 years in this business, I’ve built my skills and standards – and if I think something’s not going to serve you or your customers, I’ll be pushing for a better solution.
Wrapping Up
#WCSyd24 was packed with insights, inspiring talks, and incredible new connections. Huge thanks to the organisers, speakers, and everyone I met who made it such a fantastic experience. I’m leaving energised, more confident, and reminded of exactly why I love what I do. Here’s to levelling up, making our work better and more accessible, and to everyone pushing the web forward.
